Printability guide

Not sure if your 3D model is printable?

A model can look finished on screen and still need review for scale, wall thickness, supports, material, fit, or use-case risk. Send the file and notes so the quote can be grounded in the real part.

Good signs

These details usually make a review faster and more useful.

  • The file has real-world scale and units
  • Critical dimensions are known or included in notes
  • The intended use, quantity, and material preference are clear
  • The model is not safety-critical, restricted, or someone else's design

Common issues

These are the reasons a calculator can look confident while the real job still needs review.

  • Thin walls, small pins, unsupported overhangs, or fragile details
  • Unknown scale, missing tolerances, or fit-critical dimensions
  • Support cleanup, orientation, or finish expectations changing cost
  • Material mismatch for heat, flex, detail, or handling

What to send

A short note can be more valuable than a long description.

  • STL, STEP, STP, 3MF, OBJ, or ZIP file
  • How the part will be used and what must fit
  • Quantity, deadline context, and target budget if relevant
  • Whether strength, finish, flexibility, or low cost matters most

Common questions

Can you tell me if the file is printable before payment?

Yes. The quote request is reviewed before payment, and obvious printability risks can be handled in the quote response.

Why did another instant quote look cheaper or higher?

Instant tools can use different assumptions for orientation, supports, material, finish, failure risk, delivery, and taxes. PrintYourDuck reviews the file before final pricing.

Can a rough budget range help?

Yes, but it is not a final price. A budget note helps shape material and finish trade-offs before the reviewed quote.

Should I upload STL or STEP?

Use STEP or STP for precise CAD parts when available. STL, 3MF, OBJ, and ZIP are accepted for many quote requests.
